The founding partner, Michael (“Mike”) Kennedy, had first-hand knowledge in areas critical to our clients’ needs, success and understanding when he founded the firm in 1999. Mike successfully founded, owned, and operated a prosperous business, worked for both the Internal Revenue Service and the Minnesota Department of Revenue, and gained a decade of valuable experience with a public accounting firm.

Attorney Scott A. Ruhsam practiced in estate planning and civil litigation. Scott also worked in government relations for a non-profit organization and served as in-house counsel for a midsize closely held business before joining the firm in 2013. In 2020, Scott joined Mike as a Partner of Kennedy & Ruhsam Law Offices, P.A.

Mike Kennedy brings more than 20 years of tax and legal experience to his clients. Mike represents individuals and the business community in tax planning, tax controversies, business law, and estate planning. With extensive experience in all types of tax matters, as well as in negotiation and/or drafting of simple and complex estate plans, business sale agreements, and corporate governance documents, Mike is able to explain complex legal and tax matters in language that clients can comprehend.

Prior to founding the firm in 1999, Mike was a manager for a Minneapolis public accounting firm where he oversaw the firm’s small business group and the estate planning and compliance group. Prior to that he worked for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and for the Minnesota Department of Revenue. Mike earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and studied accounting at the University of Minnesota. He attended William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota where he earned his Juris Doctor.

Outside of the office, Mike enjoys spending time with his four children. He also coaches various youth sports teams (hockey, soccer, baseball), and volunteers for numerous wildlife preservation and church related organizations.

Scott Ruhsam represents clients in matters of tax, business, estate planning, probate and probate administration. Prior to joining Kennedy & Rusham Law, Scott worked for a law firm in Bloomington, Minnesota where he practiced in estate planning and civil litigation. He also worked in government relations for a national non-profit organization, and served as inside general counsel for a midsize closely held business.

Scott attended the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus in Scientific and Technical writing. He attended William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota where he earned his Juris Doctor.

Scott currently lives, and has resided for most of his life, in south Minneapolis. Outside of the office, Scott enjoys volunteering at Washburn High School football games, coaching youth basketball in Minneapolis. Scott also enjoys playing basketball, softball, golf, and spending time with his wife.

Sam came to the Twin Cities from the Milwaukee area for college and found a permanent home. He earned his baccalaureate degree in Accounting at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. While completing his degree, Sam prepared income tax returns as an intern at a financial advisory firm.

After graduation, Sam pursued a law degree at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, focusing his studies on business and tax law. During his second and third year of law school, Sam worked as a clerk for the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office. In May 2019, Sam earned his Juris Doctorate degree, and became a Minnesota licensed attorney by October.

Sam helps clients through tax matters with the Internal Revenue Service and the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
When Sam isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with family and friends. Sam is an avid Golden Gopher fan, who attends hockey, basketball, and football games throughout the fall and winter. His favorite spring and summer activity is to cheer on the Twins at Target Field. Sam stays active by playing hockey, softball and golf with his friends. To relax he spends time in the woods and out on the water.

Madeline Meyer is an associate at Kennedy & Ruhsam Law Offices who represents clients in various legal matters, including business, estate planning, probate, probate administration, family law, civil litigation, tax controversy, and government relations. Madeline recently graduated with honors from Drake University Law school in Des Moines, Iowa completing both her Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration. During law school, Madeline clerked with Simpson, Jensen, Abels, Fischer, & Bouslog and interned with the Iowa Hospital Association in government relations. She also served as a staff member of the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law and representative for the Student Bar Association. Prior to law school, Madeline worked as a business fellow on the Marketing and Communications teams at Atlantic Media in Washington D.C.

When Madeline is not practicing law, she enjoys being active outdoors with her partner Grant. Madeline loves the Rocky Mountains, spending time with family and friends, traveling, cheering on the Drake Bulldogs and practicing yoga. Madeline and Grant recently moved to the Twin Cities and are looking forward to getting involved in the local community.

Tina Johnson is a PACE Registered Paralegal at Kennedy & Ruhsam Law Offices, P.A. She has worked in the estate and trust administration area since entering the legal field in 2000 and joined Kennedy & Ruhsam Law in 2020.

Tina assists with all aspects of estate planning and estate and trust administration, including drafting estate plans, probate and trust documents, transferring assets, preparing annual accountings, and preparing and filing of estate tax returns as well as fiduciary income tax returns for trusts and estates. Tina has also written and published several articles on estate planning and probate law and is an active leader with the Minnesota Paralegal Association.

Outside the office, Tina enjoys spending quality time with her husband and son. She also enjoys music, fitness and health, and photography.

Robynn Lorentz is the Office Administrator for both the Eagan and Cannon Falls office. In addition to all of her office responsibilities, Robynn assists in keeping our clients informed of the status of their case. She also plays an integral role in overseeing our real estate closings, working closely with our clients throughout the entire closing process to make sure their needs are met.

Prior to joining Kennedy & Ruhsam Law, Robynn worked as Real Estate Closer for over 18 years with Goodhue County Abstract & Title Company. During her tenure there, Robynn handled numerous home refinances, along with various buy-side and sell-side closings. She developed many lasting relationships with both lenders and realtors, and enjoyed working closely with clients on some of the most important transactions of their lives. Robynn earned her Associate’s Degree from Minneapolis Business College in Legal Office Administration in 1989.

Outside of the office, Robynn enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. She also enjoys cooking, camping and traveling.

Dustin McIntee represents clients with guardianship, conservatorship, and other special needs-related legal matters; he also practices in the areas of estate planning, business and nonprofit law, tax problem resolution, and civil and criminal litigation. Prior to joining Kennedy & Ruhsam Law, Dustin was a solo practitioner
in Asheville, North Carolina, operating a practice focused on business and nonprofit law, guardianship matters, and criminal defense. Dustin brings a wide range of experience to Kennedy & Ruhsam Law and has worked with clients in many different situations facing a variety of legal problems.

After completing his undergraduate work at the University of Minnesota, Dustin earned his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dustin practiced law in western North Carolina for six years before moving back to Minnesota in 2019. While in North Carolina, Dustin also taught college-level courses on criminal justice, constitutional law, contract law, and ethics. Dustin currently lives in northeast Minneapolis. Outside of practicing law, Dustin coaches high school football and track and field for Minneapolis South High School; he is certified by USA Track and Field and has helped multiple shot put and discus throwers qualify to compete in the state championship track-meets in Minnesota and North Carolina.

Dustin and his wife Tiffany also enjoy long road trips and have traveled to, and through, more than half of the United States together.

Wyatt handles the legal administrative tasks for our law firm and legal team, both efficiently and effectively. Wyatt greets each client in our Eagan Office, while maintaining client files and filings, copying and scanning of legal documents, and mailings.

Wyatt is a 2020 graduate from the University of Missouri where he gained his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Marketing, and obtained his Certificate for Sales and Customer Development. Wyatt has chosen to take a year to gain experience in the legal field before he plans to enter Law School in the Fall semester of 2021.

Outside of the office, Wyatt enjoys spending time with his friends and girlfriend, listening to music, watching (and being let down) by his favorite Minnesota sports teams, and watching YouTube videos of the legal implications of famous movies. This Spring, Wyatt will be joining the Hastings High School Varsity Baseball Coaching Staff, where he hopes to help young ball players improve their game and guide them to success, both on and off the field.
