Mike Kennedy brings more than 20 years of tax and legal experience to his clients. Mike represents individuals and the business community in tax planning, tax controversies, business law, and estate planning. With extensive experience in all types of tax matters, as well as in negotiation and/or drafting of simple and complex estate plans, business sale agreements, and corporate governance documents, Mike is able to explain complex legal and tax matters in language that clients can comprehend.

Prior to founding the firm in 1999, Mike was a manager for a Minneapolis public accounting firm where he oversaw the firm’s small business group and the estate planning and compliance group. Prior to that he worked for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and for the Minnesota Department of Revenue. Mike earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and studied accounting at the University of Minnesota. He attended William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota where he earned his Juris Doctor.

Outside of the office, Mike enjoys spending time with his four children. He also coaches various youth sports teams (hockey, soccer, baseball), and volunteers for numerous wildlife preservation and church related organizations.

Scott Ruhsam represents clients in matters of tax, business, estate planning, probate and probate administration. Prior to joining Kennedy & Ruhsam Law, Scott worked for a law firm in Bloomington, Minnesota where he practiced in estate planning and civil litigation. He also worked in government relations for a national non-profit organization, and served as inside general counsel for a midsize closely held business.

Scott attended the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus in Scientific and Technical writing. He attended William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota where he earned his Juris Doctor.

Scott currently lives, and has resided for most of his life, in south Minneapolis. Outside of the office, Scott enjoys volunteering at Washburn High School football games, coaching youth basketball in Minneapolis. Scott also enjoys playing basketball, softball, golf, and spending time with his wife.

Sam came to the Twin Cities from the Milwaukee area for college and found a permanent home. He earned his baccalaureate degree in Accounting at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. While completing his degree, Sam prepared income tax returns as an intern at a financial advisory firm.

After graduation, Sam pursued a law degree at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, focusing his studies on business and tax law. During his second and third year of law school, Sam worked as a clerk for the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.  Sam helps clients through tax matters with the Internal Revenue Service and the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

When Sam isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with family and friends. Sam is an avid Golden Gopher fan, who attends hockey, basketball, and football games throughout the fall and winter. His favorite spring and summer activity is to cheer on the Twins at Target Field. Sam stays active by playing hockey, softball and golf with his friends. To relax he spends time in the woods and out on the water.

Martha Sullivan represents clients in matters of family law, estate planning, probate and probate administration. Prior to joining Kennedy & Ruhsam Law, Martha founded Sullivan Law Office in Hastings Minnesota. She continues to volunteer for Legal Aid of Dakota County for whom she started a pro bono legal clinic. She also worked in tax preparation and corporate compliance.

Martha attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts major in Government and a minor in Philosophy. At Smith she was a member of the Swimming and Diving team for four years. Martha received her juris doctor degree from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Martha currently lives in Eagan Minnesota with her husband. Outside of the office, she participates in athletics, boating, being outdoors and going to live music events. More than anything, Martha enjoys spending time with her loving husband, three beautiful children and two amazing dogs

 

Jordan Sisto

Jordan Sisto is a new member of the Kennedy & Ruhsam team. Jordan primarily advises and represents clients administering state and federal grant funding in matters of operational compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Jordan also handles various civil defense matters for Kennedy & Ruhsam tax and estate clients.  Prior to joining Kennedy & Ruhsam Law, Jordan worked for a civil litigation firm in Lake Elmo, Minnesota practicing insurance defense focusing on construction defect litigation and regulatory board as well as workers’ compensation defense. Jordan clerked with the First District Public Defender during law school and immediately thereafter representing public defense clients as a certified student attorney. Before becoming an attorney, Jordan spent over a decade interfacing with state agencies and administration working in various capacities in social services in Pennsylvania, Alaska, and Minnesota.

Jordan attended Crown College in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota, where he graduated with Bachelors of the Arts in both English and Psychology with a third major in Religious Studies. He attended Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he earned his Juris Doctor.

Jordan currently lives in Woodbury, Minnesota, which he describes as “a great place for lunch.”  Outside of the office, Jordan enjoys suffering through triathlons and fitness competitions as an excuse to bake (and eat) decadent desserts. Jordan’s best friend is his cat, Nitro, who is a very good boy.

Dustin McIntee represents clients with guardianship, conservatorship, and other special needs-related legal matters; he also practices in the areas of estate planning, business and nonprofit law, tax problem resolution, and civil and criminal litigation. Prior to joining Kennedy & Ruhsam Law, Dustin was a solo practitioner
in Asheville, North Carolina, operating a practice focused on business and nonprofit law, guardianship matters, and criminal defense. Dustin brings a wide range of experience to Kennedy & Ruhsam Law and has worked with clients in many different situations facing a variety of legal problems.

After completing his undergraduate work at the University of Minnesota, Dustin earned his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dustin practiced law in western North Carolina for six years before moving back to Minnesota in 2019. While in North Carolina, Dustin also taught college-level courses on criminal justice, constitutional law, contract law, and ethics. Dustin currently lives in northeast Minneapolis. Outside of practicing law, Dustin coaches high school football and track and field for Minneapolis South High School; he is certified by USA Track and Field and has helped multiple shot put and discus throwers qualify to compete in the state championship track-meets in Minnesota and North Carolina.

Dustin and his wife Tiffany also enjoy long road trips and have traveled to, and through, more than half of the United States together.

Tina Johnson is a PACE Registered Paralegal at Kennedy & Ruhsam Law Offices, P.A. She has worked in the estate and trust administration area since entering the legal field in 2000 and joined Kennedy & Ruhsam Law in 2020.

Tina assists with all aspects of estate planning and estate and trust administration, including drafting estate plans, probate and trust documents, transferring assets, preparing annual accountings, and preparing and filing of estate tax returns as well as fiduciary income tax returns for trusts and estates. Tina has also written and published several articles on estate planning and probate law and is an active leader with the Minnesota Paralegal Association.

Outside the office, Tina enjoys spending quality time with her husband and son. She also enjoys music, fitness and health, and photography.

Mary Willink is a paralegal in Kennedy & Ruhsam Law’s business, litigation, estate planning, tax and family law practices, having worked in civil litigation since 2011. Following completion of her Bachelor of Arts in English and ensuing stints in journalism, nonprofit work and publishing, she pursued her paralegal certification at Duke University. Since that time, she’s championed clarity and curiosity in the law and language. Also, alliteration.

Mary is fixated on the idea of advocacy and the many ways to serve good causes and good people. She consistently seeks out advanced education and opportunities to add value to her relationships and work product, including specialized healthcare and insurance courses. In 2013 she earned her PACE Registered Paralegal credential.

Outside of the office, Mary undertakes day trips with mostly-happy surprises in the south metro and western Wisconsin with her husband and three young daughters. She enjoys being on the water, themed dinner parties, live music and antiquing, in addition to reading and writing.

Upon securing her paralegal degree from Inver Hills Community College in 2010, Julie had special reason to be proud of maintaining a 4.0 GPA. As a young, single mom, working full time throughout her tenure, her commitment to pursuing law for its theory and applications in life took particular effort. After several years in administrative support in public schools, Julie’s career goals were fulfilled when her love of the law and her passion for helping people finally came together as she started with Kennedy & Ruhsam in the summer of 2021.

Julie’s unique life experience has helped enhance her interpersonal skills and enables her to work well with different generations and people from all walks of life. Her patience, empathy, and passion are distinctive in both her personal and professional relationships. Today, Julie is a legal assistant for the areas of business law, probate/estate planning, family law and civil litigation. She drafts client and court correspondence, as well as a variety of legal documents. Julie also assists the attorneys in the creation, organization and management of client files on our electronic database.

Outside of the office, Julie enjoys attending concerts (especially with her 16-year-old son), connecting with her long-distance friends, and going on adventures with her boyfriend and his two young children.

Robynn Lorentz is the Office Administrator for both the Eagan and Cannon Falls office. In addition to all of her office responsibilities, Robynn assists in keeping our clients informed of the status of their case. She also plays an integral role in overseeing our real estate closings, working closely with our clients throughout the entire closing process to make sure their needs are met.

Prior to joining Kennedy & Ruhsam Law, Robynn worked as Real Estate Closer for over 18 years with Goodhue County Abstract & Title Company. During her tenure there, Robynn handled numerous home refinances, along with various buy-side and sell-side closings. She developed many lasting relationships with both lenders and realtors, and enjoyed working closely with clients on some of the most important transactions of their lives. Robynn earned her Associate’s Degree from Minneapolis Business College in Legal Office Administration in 1989.

Outside of the office, Robynn enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. She also enjoys cooking, camping and traveling.
